1. What is the purpose of Yellow Ribbon Prison Run 2010 (YRPR10)?

The Yellow Ribbon Prison Run 2010 is an iconic run, bringing runners through various historical sights such as the Johore Battery, the Changi Chapel Museum, and the old Changi Prison wall. Ending the run at the new Changi Prison Complex where they will see the development of a new generation of prisons designed to cater to the security and rehabilitation needs of the prisoners.

Yellow Ribbon Prison Run 2010 will be a fun and memorable run, to encourage the community to play a part to the Yellow Ribbon message and participate in the run to show their support for the ex-offenders. The theme, Beyond the Run, is about giving ex-offenders a second chance to start afresh. It conveys the message that what matters most is not about the fall, but how to pick himself/ herself up after the fall.

2. Who is the Guest-Of-Honour?
The Guest-Of-Honour is Mr K Shanmugam, 2nd Minister for Home Affairs. He shall reinforce the commitment of MHA towards second chances for ex-offenders who desire to change for the better.

3. When will the event be held and what time will it end?

It will be held on the morning of Sunday, 5 Sep 2010 at 7:00am.  The flag-off for 10km Competitive Run and 6km Fun Run will be at 7:45am and 8:15am respectively.  The entire Run, including the Carnival at End Point, will end approximately by 12:00pm.


4. Where will the event be held?
The Start Point of the Run will be from the SAF Field at Farnborough Road, which is in the vicinity of Changi Village. The 6km and 10km End Points will be at Changi Prison Complex.

5. What is the Run route like?

Participants can look forward to the following:

  • Challenges of the terrain/scenic views such as:
    • Loyang Way to Upper Changi Road North - 30 degrees incline run
    • Stretch from Abingdon Road to Cosford Road - undulating terrain
    • Changi North Rise - 20 degrees incline for about 200m

 

  • Heritage areas/places of interest/attractions such as:
    • SAF Selarang Camp
    • Johore Battery
    • T2 Runway scene

  • The undulating and strenuous terrain of the route is representative of an inmate's reintegration journey back to society. It is an ardous task that takes a lot of determination and resolve from the individual. The community too plays an important role! Aptly summarized by the theme "Beyond The Run", this run is all about the community coming forward to show their support for inmates, ex-offenders and their families.


6. What is the start time of the Carnival at the End Point? 

The Carnival at the End-Point will start from 8:30am onwards.

 
7. Will food and drinks be provided at the Start and End Points, as well as along the Run route?
Isotonic drinks will be provided at the End Point and designated locations along the Run route.

8. Who is the beneficiary for the Run? 

The beneficiary for the Run is the Yellow Ribbon Fund (YRF), which is in line with helping inmates and ex-offenders.


9. Who are our Sponsors and Partner in Sports? 

Our Main Sponsors include the Tote Board/Singapore Pools, New Creation Church.
Some of our other sponsors are: Jollibean Foods Pte Ltd, Wanin Industries Pte Ltd (Pereocean), National Heritage Board, The Retreat Spa, Global Active Limited (GNC).

Our Partners are: Singapore Athletic Association and Singapore Sports Council.


10. Can I run without my number bib? 

No.  Participants without their number bibs will not be allowed to be on the Run route.


11. Can I run without wearing the designated running jersey?

Yes.  However, participants are to be reminded to wear the number bibs which consist of essential information such as their names, emergency contact numbers and the color codes for the category which they are competing in.
                    

Runners are also encouraged to purchase the Yellow Ribbon Shoelaces at $2.00 to show their support for ex-offenders at the run and help us set a record for the “Largest number of runners wearing yellow shoelaces”.

14. Since 5 Sep 2010 falls in the fasting month, why are you still organising this event then?

The Run is the launch event for the YRP.  Our campaign for YRP falls in September every year ever since we launched the project in 2004.


15. What is so interesting about the Run?

The route will bring the participants past various historical sights and also into the vicinity of the prison.  It will give the runners a visual impact of how Prisons has transformed into a new generation Prison Complex, designed to cater to the security and rehabilitation needs of the prisoners. 

This year, CARE Network is also celebrating its 10th anniversary since inception.  We will have activities incorporated along the run to commemorate the collaborative efforts of these agencies in helping the ex-offenders and their families. 


16. How many categories are there for the Run and what are they? 

There are 3 categories for the Run. They are:

    • 10km Competitive Run - Men
    • 10km Competitive Run - Women
    • 6km Fun Run for both genders
    • There is also a Corporate category for any company or registered organization who expressed interest and wishes to send in 10 or more runners to participate in either the 10km Competitive Run or 6km Fun Run. For the companies or organisations that send in their teams to participate in the Run, their company names may be entered into the Yellow Ribbon Hall of Support on the YRPR10 website. The ranking will be based on the total mileage accumulated by the teams of participants from the same company or organisation. A Team Leader should be appointed and ensures that the Corporate Sign-up form is duly completed with relevant particulars for our processing

17. How does the Corporate category race work?

Each corporate team consists of at least 10 runners. This category is open to all business organization, including ministries and statutory boards. Kindly email us at enquiry@yellowribbonprisonrun.sg for more information.

A team of 10 or more runners from the same company/organization need not be all registering for the same category i.e. it can be a mixture of participation in 10km Competitive Run or 6km Fun Run categories.


18. How do participants register for the Corporate category?

An account will be issued to the organization via the team leader, where all members within the organization will be able to register online with an account. Payment will be done as one organization at a later date.


19. What is the expected number of participants for each of the categories?

We are expecting a total number of approximately 10000 participants for the Run.  We aim to garner support from the following parties:

    • Community partners
    • Ex-offenders
    • Corporate members
    • Home Team agencies
    • Schools
    • Religious organizations
    • CARE Network
    • Singapore Armed Forces (SAF)
    • International guests
    • Members of the public

20. How much is the Registration Fee and what is the mode of payment available?

The Corporate rates are not to be revealed via Internet or any publicity means. It will only be disclosed when any interested organization writes in to enquire.
                                                                                                                  
Payment is via e-NETS portal where credit cards can be accepted.


21. What is the mode of registration available?

Online registration is the only mode of registration. Payment by either Nets or Cash is only available at the roadshow.

For participation in Corporate category, a cheque payment payable to Adventurer’s Singapore Pte Ltd can be sent in via post.


22. When is the Closing Date for the registration? 

Registration closes when the maximum number of slots has been filled, or on 13 Aug 2010 (Fri).


23. Will I receive a refund on my registration fees if I withdraw from the Run? 

No.  Once the registration has been duly processed, there will be no refund to the participant should he / she decide not to take part.


24. Is the registration transferable? 

The entry is non-transferable.  The organizer has the right to disqualify any Participant found to be using another Participant’s number bib.


25. Can I change my race category after I have registered?

Participants are not allowed to change their race categories after registration.


26. Are there any prizes for the top finishers and what is the Judging Criteria?

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 10 finishers of the 10km Competitive Runs for both men and women. The cash prize distribution is as follows:

As for the Judging Criteria, the winners will be arranged in accordance with the official timings recorded.


27. What can a participant be entitled to upon signing up for the Run?

A participant is also entitled to the following items:

  1. Invitation to YRP events
  2. Finisher’s Certificate

 

A Race Pack which consists of the following items:

  1. Exclusive Yellow Ribbon Prison Run Jersey
  2. Race Handbook
  3. Waterproof drawstring bag
  4. Number bib
  5. Timing tag
  6. Arm pouch
  7. Yellow Ribbon Shoelace (optional)

 

For running jerseys, participants can go to the YRPR10 website to submit their preferred sizes during the online registration.

Goodie Bags will be issued to the participants at the End Point upon completion of the Run.  Details of the collection point will be indicated online at YRPR10’s website and in the race handbook furnished in the race pack.

All participants, who successfully complete the race in their elected category, will be awarded a Finisher’s Certificate which will be mailed to them shortly after the race.

All participants will have to use the drawstring bag provided to keep their possession if they want to use the depository service on race day.

Participants who sign up for either the 10km Competitive Run or 6km Fun Run are entitled to the same Race Pack and Goodie Bags.

28. What do I receive after the run? 

Participants received a Prison Wall paper weight in YRPR09. This year, each participant will receive a special gift after completing their run.  They will collect their goodie bags by producing a tear-off collection tag attached to their number bibs at the Goodie Bag Collection Area.  A Finisher’s Certificate will also be mailed to participants with Singapore addresses.


29. Is transport provided to the Start and from End Points?

Yes. Bus ferry services will be provided from Singapore Expo to Start Point, starting from 6.00 am till 8.15 am.
         

At the End Point i.e. Carnival site, bus ferry services will also be provided from a designated location at the Carnival site to ferry runners to Singapore Expo. This ferry service will start from 9.45 am.

30. When is the race pack collection? 

The dates for race pack collection are Sunday, 29th Aug (0900 hrs to 2000 hrs) and Monday, 30th August 2010 (1100 hrs to2100 hrs) at National Library Board at Bras Basah.


31. Are there other dates to collect my Race Pack?

No.  Participants can only collect their Race Packs on the date stated.


32. What do I need to bring during the collection day?

Participants have to produce the e-receipt bearing the Confirmation Number (sent to your mail after payment has been made), together with their identity card or passport.


33. Can I authorize someone to collect on my behalf?

Yes.  Please print and fill in the Letter Of Authorisation (LOA), together with your e-receipt and his/her identity card or passport.  LOA can be downloaded at the following URL:

34. What does the race pack consist of?

The race pack consists of a running jersey, a race handbook, a number bib, an arm pouch and a timing tag contained in an exclusive Yellow Ribbon drawstring bag.


35. Can I exchange if the size of my running jersey is not suitable?

Size selection is made during registration.  Please refer to the online size chart at YRPR10’s website for details.  Please note no exchange of jerseys’ sizes will be allowed.


36. Where can I deposit my belongings before the run?

At the baggage collection points at the start point.
